Zoals het licht het helderst schijnt in de duisternis, is de vredeskreet het hardst nodig wanneer de raketten het heftigst inslaan<\/strong>. Vanuit die gedachte ging het jaarlijkse Shalom Festival op de Groenplaats in Antwerpen op 15 oktober toch door, ondanks de toegenomen dreiging na de terreuraanval van 7 oktober. \u201cVoor Isra\u00ebl, maar \u00f3\u00f3k voor de Palestijnse mensen die onder het terreurregime kreunen,\u201d aldus co\u00f6rdinator Katia van den Broeck. \u201cJuist vandaag vinden we het belangrijk om hier wel te staan.\u201d\u00a0 Met een versterkte politiebeveiliging en een\u00a0minder feestelijk en meer ingetogen programma, dat dit jaar in het teken stond van de getroffen families van de terreuraanval,\u00a0lieten de initiatiefnemers, een multicultureel en gevarieerd geluid horen van vrede voor Isra\u00ebl en voorspoed voor het Midden-Oosten.<\/p>\n Waarom Shalom? <\/strong>Het Shalom Festival is een initiatief van Joodse- en Evangelisch-Christelijke organisaties die de handen in \u00e9\u00e9n slaan om antisemitisme te bestrijden en de vrede in co-existentie in eigen stad, land en in het Midden-Oosten te bevorderen,<\/p>\n \u201cWe komen van ver<\/strong>,\u201d begint initiatiefnemer Eugenia Daskalopoulou in de openingsspeech, waarin ze staande tegenover Regina Sluszny, een joodse gemeenschapsleider die ooit ondergedoken bij christenen de Tweede Wereldoorlog overleefde, haar erkentelijkheid toont voor de warme samenwerking. \u201cOp dit podium hebben we dikwijls samen gestaan en namens de Christenen heb ik vergeving gevraagd voor het leed dat de Joden door de eeuwen is berokkend \u2018in naam van God\u2019\u201d. Ze moedigt het publiek aan om als vredestichters<\/strong> op te treden, door verantwoordelijkheid te nemen om de weg tot vriendschap te zoeken, staande op de vele factoren die mensen in dezelfde stad en regio samenbinden.\u00a0Regina voegt toe dat onze waarde als mens niet stoelt op geloof of afkomst: \u201cAls mensen zijn we allemaal gelijk. Het zijn onze keuzes die tellen en spreken over wie we zijn<\/strong>.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n Het\u00a0Isra\u00eblische volkslied Hativkah,\u00a0Isra\u00eblische, Joodse- en gospelmuziek, maar ook een optreden van de Blueszanger Boogie Boy, die voor de gelegenheid speciaal een lied had geschreven, worden afgewisseld met toespraken van de namiddag tot in de avond, met als sleutelwoorden hoop, troost en geloof<\/strong>. De 120 ontvoerde burgers uit Isra\u00ebl verschijnen op het projectiescherm en borden met foto’s worden opgeheven, van een baby van zes maanden tot een bejaarde in rolstoel; ouders, kinderen, vrouwen en mannen. Vertegenwoordigers van verschillende nationaliteiten laten elk hun betrokkenheid horen. Zo ook een Iraanse gemeenschapsleider<\/strong> die al jarenlang in Belgi\u00eb woont. Bewust van de vijandschap vanuit zijn land van afkomst, spreekt hij zijn solidariteit uit met de getroffen families<\/strong> en uit hij zijn diepe waardering voor de democratische en geestelijk-morele waarden van Isra\u00ebl.\u00a0Hij verwijst naar de rijke geschiedenis en relatie die Perzi\u00eb vanouds met Isra\u00ebl had tot aan de Islamitische Revolutie en roept zijn volk op om zich te bekeren en de draad weer op te pakken. Zijn wens is dat Iran in de toekomst ook zal deelnemen aan de Abraham Verdragen. \u2018Ik hou van Isra\u00ebl\u2019, zegt een Irakese bezoeker<\/strong>, die met drie Isra\u00eblische vlaggen in de hand op de foto gaat met een van de aanwezige leiders.<\/p>\n Idit\u00a0Rosenzweig\u00a0Abu, ambassadrice van Isra\u00ebl, roept op tot steun in de strijd: \u201cHamas is ISIS; zelfde ideologie, zelfde wegen. Hamas gebruikt dezelfde terreur tegen de Palestijnse mensen. De strijd tegen Hamas is uiteindelijk de gezamenlijke strijd om de wereld van terrorisme te redden<\/strong>. Regina adds that our value as human beings is not based on religion or origin. \u201cAs human beings, we are all equal. It is our choices that count and speak of who we are.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n The Israeli national anthem Hativkah, Israeli, Jewish and gospel music, but also a performance by the blues singer Boogie Boy, who had written a song especially for the occasion, are alternated with speeches from the afternoon until the evening, sharing hope, comfort and faith<\/strong>. The 120 kidnapped citizens from Israel appear on the projection screen and boards with photos are raised, from a six-month-old baby to an elderly person in a wheelchair; parents, children, women and men. Representatives of different nationalities, each express their involvement. This includes an Iranian community leader<\/strong> who has lived in Belgium for years. Aware of the hostility from his country of origin, he expresses his solidarity with the affected families<\/strong> and his deep appreciation for the democratic and spiritual-moral values of Israel.
