Lang leve de VREDE, SHALOM!
Haar 18de verjaardag-editie vierde het Shalom Festival afgelopen zondag op de Groenplaats en
trakteerde Antwerpen op een uitbundig feest. De baanbrekende vredesverdragen,
Abrahamakkoorden waren de kers op de taart.
De Joodse- en Christengemeenschappen zonden een brede uitnodiging naar alle burgers en boden een
uitgestrekte hand aan de Arabische gemeenschap. De ambassadeur van Marokko vergezeld door de Consul van Antwerpen bracht een moedige speech. Een Arabisch vredeslied ging deze woorden
vooraf gebracht door mensen van Syrische origine.
Trouw op haar vaste locatie, de Groenplaats in het bruisend centrum van de stad tevens ook de
geboorteplaats van het initiatief, hees het vredesevent de zeilen. De bijzonder gunstige
weersomstandigheden waren een geschenk uit de hemel desondanks alle wisselvallige voorspellingen

“Vrede tussen alle mensen. Iedereen is gelijk wat zijn geloof ook is.” was het kerncitaat van Regina Sluszny, voorzitster der Joodse Organisaties die het festival officieel opende.
“Abraham betekent “vader van veel volkeren” zei Evgenia Daskalopulu, voorzitster van de Belgische
Coalitie voor Israël daarop”, de Bijbel citerend uit het boek Genesis. “En zo zit het plein vandaag vol
met mensen uit verschillende volkeren die in harmonie met elkaar zijn. Het is niet de ene in de plaats
van de andere maar inclusief de andere zolang we respect hebben voor wie de andere is.” voegde ze
toe.
“Vanmiddag zal alles in het werk gesteld worden om VREDE gestalte te geven en het is van groot belang
om als u straks naar huis gaat u van deze vrede blijft getuigen om de toekomst te garanderen voor
u, uw kinderen en kleinkinderen!” zei gemeenteraadslid André Gantman vol passie.
“Alleen dappere mensen ondertekenen vredesakkoorden. En zo doorbreken zij de vicieuze cirkel van
haat en geweld waarvoor wij enorm dankbaar zijn.” aldus Patricia Teitelbaum, organisatie comitélid.
Een vredesduif uit het project www.RocketsintoRoses.com van de Israëlische artiest Yaron Bob werd
overhandigd aan de Marokkaanse ambassadeur als symbool van streven naar vrede voor de regio.
Een verjaardagstaart met opdruk van het Shalom Festival zelf werd overhandigd aan de ambassadeur
van Israël. Ze vatte het evenement als volgt samen: “Een geweldige steunbetuiging voor Israël. In een
zee van uitdagingen is het zo versterkend en bekrachtigend om met zoveel liefde en opgeheven hoofd
ontvangen te worden op één van de hoofdpleinen in Antwerpen.”
Boogie Boy en Karista waren de sterren van de Israëlische- en gospeloptredens. Op hun
onweerstaanbare tonen trokken ze heel het plein mee in dans en ambiance. “Een diepe verbondenheid
was te zien wanneer mannen en vrouwen van allerlei leeftijden en strekkingen elkaar de handen gaven
bij het volksdansen. Net zoals de rij langer en langer werd, zo belooft het Shalom Festival zeer ver te reiken.” zei Katia Van de Broeck van Koinonia Ministries.
Een waaier van stands met eten, literatuur, kinderanimatie, informatie, Israëlische producten,
liefdadigheidsorganisaties omringden het evenement en wekten interesse van de voorbijgangers op.
Zo baanden ze de weg om elkaar te leren kennen en te waarderen.
Michael Freilich, federaal parlementslid en organisatie comitélid rondde het festival af met de woorden: “Zo hebben we een vredesboodschap gegeven vanop de Groenplaats voor de hele wereld, over samenwerking tussen culturen en gemeenschappen.” Tot slot riep hij het publiek op om ook aan de Oekraïense bevolking te denken in deze moeilijke tijden. “Slava Ukraini, leve Israël, leve België en Antwerpen.” Klonk het over de Groenplaats gevolgd door een instemmend en langdurig applaus.
Het Shalom Festival is een initiatief van de Belgische Coalitie voor Israël, de Alliantie voor de Vrede in het Midden-Oosten, Koinonia Ministries, ORT Belgium, Joods Actueel, Belgian Friends of Israel, Forum der Joodse Organisaties, Christenen voor Israël, Chrétiens Amis d’Israel, A-net, B’nai B’rith , Finjan en andere Joodse en Christelijke organisaties met het oog op de waarheid te brengen over het joodse volk, antisemitisme te bestrijden en alle mensen die van goede wil zijn, uit te nodigen om mee te bouwen aan een betere wereld.

Long live PEACE, SHALOM.
The 18th edition-anniversary of the Shalom Festival was celebrated on Sunday 23rd October 2022 at
the Groenplaats of Antwerp, treating the city with a joyful feast. The icing on the cake was the
groundbreaking Abraham Accords peace treaties as the theme of the year.
The organizing Jewish and Christian communities sent a warm invitation to all citizens, extending an
open hand to the Arab community in particular. The Ambassador of Morocco accompanied on the
stage of Shalom by the Consul of Antwerp gave a bold speech preceded by a Syrian group who sang
a song of peace.
The Groenplaats, in the bustling center of the city, has been the annual location for the festival since
its inception. The particularly favorable weather conditions on the day were a blessing despite all the
forecasts.

“Peace between all people. Everyone is equal no matter what their faith is” was the keynote quote
of Regina Sluszny, president of the Flemish Forum of Jewish organizations, who officially opened the
festival.
“Abraham means ‘father of many peoples’”, said Evgenia Daskalopulu, president of the Belgian
Coalition for Israel, quoting the Bible from the book of Genesis. “And so, the square today is full of
people from different backgrounds who are in harmony with each other. It is not one instead of the
other, but inclusive, of the other as long as we respect who the other is” she added.
“This afternoon, every effort will be made to give shape to PEACE and it is of great importance that
when you go home you continue to bear witness to this peace in order to guarantee the future for
you, your children and grandchildren!” said city councilor André Gantman, passionately
“Only brave people sign peace agreements. And by so doing they break the vicious circle of hatred and violence, for which we are immensely grateful” added Patricia Teitelbaum, a member of the organizing committee. A dove of peace, made by Israeli artist Yaron Bob (www.rocketsintoroses.com) from Kassam rockets fired in hatred, was presented to the Moroccan ambassador in recognition of
efforts being made to promote peace amongst nations.
A delicious birthday cake, iced with the words ‘Shalom Festival’, was presented to the Ambassador of
Israel. She summed up the event as follows: “The Shalom Festival is a tremendous act of support for
Israel. In a sea of challenges, it is so encouraging and empowering to be received with so much love
publicly on one of the main squares in Antwerp.”
Boogie Boy and Karista were the stars of the artistic show, with their wonderful Israeli and gospel music
performances. The ambience was irresistible, drawing people from all over the square into dancing. “A deep connection could be seen when men and women of all ages and tendencies linked hands in folk dancing. Just as that line got longer and longer, the Shalom Festival promises to reach further and further”, said Katia Van de Broeck of Koinonia Ministries.
There was a range of stands to explore, with food, literature, children’s entertainment, information,
Israeli products, and charities causing many passers-by. Interaction helped visitors as usually
appreciate and get to know one another.
Michael Freilich, Federal Parliament member and organizing committee member, rounded off the festival with the words: “This is how we gave a message of peace from the Groenplaats for the whole world, about cooperation between cultures and communities”. Finally, he called on the public also to think on and support the Ukrainian people in these difficult times. “Slava Ukraini, long live Israel, long live Belgium and Antwerp!” resounded over the Groenplaats followed by shouts of agreement and prolonged applause.

Vive la Paix, Shalom.
Le festival Shalom a célébré sa 18e édition dimanche dernier à la Groenplaats, offrant à Anvers une fête exubérante. La cerise sur le gâteau était la célébration des traités de paix révolutionnaires des Accords d’Abraham.
Les communautés juive et chrétienne ont adressé une invitation chaleureuse à tous, y compris en tendant la main à la communauté arabe, dont certains membres (originaires de Syrie) ont entonné un chant de paix depuis la grande scène. L’ambassadeur du Maroc accompagné du consul d’Anvers a ensuite prononcé un discours courageux.
La Groenplaats, dans le centre animé de la ville, est le lieu annuel du festival depuis sa création. Les conditions météorologiques particulièrement favorables ont été une bénédiction malgré les prévisions changeantes.

“La paix entre tous les peuples. Tout le monde est égal, quelle que soit sa foi”, a déclaré Regina Sluszny, présidente du Forum flamand des organisations juives, qui a officiellement ouvert le festival.
“Abraham signifie ‘père de nombreux peuples'”, a déclaré Evgenia Daskalopulu, présidente de la Coalition belge pour Israël, citant la Bible dans le livre de la Genèse. “Et donc, la place aujourd’hui est pleine de gens d’horizons différents qui sont en harmonie les uns avec les autres. Ce n’est pas l’un au lieu de l’autre, mais l’inclusion de l’autre tant que nous respectons qui est l’autre”, a-t-elle ajouté.
“Cet après-midi, tout sera mis en œuvre pour donner forme à la PAIX et il est très important que lorsque vous rentrerez chez vous, vous continuiez à témoigner de cette paix afin de garantir l’avenir pour vous, vos enfants et vos petits-enfants!” a déclaré le conseiller municipal André Gantman, avec passion.
“Seules les personnes courageuses signent des accords de paix. Et ce faisant, ils brisent le cercle vicieux de la haine et de la violence, ce dont nous leur sommes immensément reconnaissants” a ajouté Patricia Teitelbaum, membre du comité organisateur. Une colombe de la paix, réalisée par l’artiste israélien Yaron Bob www.rocketsintoroses.com à partir de roquettes & Kassam tirées & motivées par la haine, a été remise à l’ambassadeur du Maroc en reconnaissance des efforts déployés pour promouvoir la paix entre les nations.
Un délicieux gâteau d’anniversaire, glacé des mots “Shalom Festival”, a été offert à l’ambassadrice d’Israël. Elle a résumé l’événement comme suit : “Le Festival Shalom est une formidable manifestation de soutien à Israël. Dans une mer de défis, il est si exaltant et encourageant d’être reçu avec autant d’amour, la tête haute, sur l’une des principales places d’Anvers.”
En termes de divertissement, Boogie Boy et Karista ont été les stars du spectacle, avec leurs merveilleuses performances de musique israélienne et de gospel. L’ambiance était irrésistible, attirant les gens de toute la place pour danser. “On pouvait voir une connexion profonde lorsque des hommes et des femmes de tous âges et de toutes tendances se donnaient la main pour les danses folkloriques. Tout comme cette file de danseurs s’allongeait de plus en plus, le festival Shalom promet d’aller toujours plus loin”, a déclaré Katia Van de Broeck de Koinonia Ministries.
Il y avait toute une série de stands à découvrir, avec de la nourriture, de la littérature, des divertissements pour enfants, des informations, des produits israéliens, et des organisations caritatives qui ont tous suscité l’intérêt des passants. Le fait de parler ensemble a permis aux gens de s’apprécier et d’apprendre à se connaître.
Michael Freilich, député fédéral et membre du comité d’organisation, a conclu le festival par ces mots : “C’est ainsi que nous avons donné un message de paix depuis la Groenplaats pour le monde entier, sur la coopération entre les cultures et les communautés”. Enfin, il a appelé le public à soutenir le peuple ukrainien en ces temps difficiles. “Slava Ukraini, vive Israël, vive la Belgique et Anvers !” ont résonné sur la Groenplaats, suivis de cris d’approbation et d’applaudissements prolongés.
